Key Biscayne Community Overview

Location & Vibe

Known for its affluent, laid-back vibe, pristine beaches, and family friendly atmosphere, it’s a stark contrast to the urban feel of nearby Brickell. Approximately 1.25 square miles with a population of nearly 15,000 residents.

Originally a coconut plantation, Key Biscayne evolved into a residential and recreational hub in the 20th century. It gained prominence with President Nixon’s “Winter White House” in the 60’s and is home to a sandbar named “Nixon Beach” where boats anchor on the weekends for a festive atmosphere.

Culture & Amenities

The laid-back lifestyle of Key Biscayne gives many families comfort in allowing their children to walk or ride to Village Green, the epicenter of youth sport on the island. Village Green is conveniently located between the commercial centers of the island, where families end up after soccer games. Key Biscayne Soccer Club founded in 1971 has over 1,000 youth boys and girls in the program with a focus on recreational and competitive play.

Nature and Recreation are nearby with Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, Crandon Park and the very popular Key Biscayne Beach Park. Beach Park is a residents only beach club, that is free to residents of Key Biscayne. Find more information about the Parks of Key Biscayne at the Village of Key Biscayne website.

Dining & Nightlife

The island’s restaurants range from fine dining spots to family-friendly eateries, many clustered in shopping centers like the Square or Harbor Plaza. For nightlife, options are more subdued compared to mainland Miami—think beachside bars with cocktails, occasional live music, and sunset vibes. Restaurants on the Key include the very popular Golden Hog, a gourmet market & deli with restaurant, South American options include Narbonna & Novecento, and of course the very popular Artisan Kitchen and bar.

My niece and her friends love the Paletas at La Tropical Artisan Paletas, while I enjoy stopping into Vinya Wine and Market. Vinya is a wine shop, bar, and casual restaurant where you can shop for bottles, or enjoy a glass along with some delectable food.

Private Member Clubs

Private clubs on Key Biscayne include the Key Biscayne Yacht Club, Grand Bay Beach Club, and the Key Biscayne Beach Club.

The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne is currently undergoing a $100 million renovation to the hotel, with plans to include the Grand Bay Beach club.
